Movie colors wrongly displayed

Hi there,

I have a new HDR-CX260VE. The snapshots I take are displayed with true colors on my PC. On the contrary, the movie colors are displayed wrongly.

What is wrong, or what do I do wrongly ?

Thank you !

Hi egoeimaire, welcome to the Sony Forums

Can you describe the problem with the movie colours a little more? It may be easiest to upload an example video onto YouTube and post a link to it here, so we can get a better idea of the problem.

Cheers

Mick

Thank you Mick for your prompt response to my question !

I do not know how to upload any video from this camera to YOUTUBE because the cideo is neither AVI nor MP4, but instead it is like that :

20111231003704.m2ts and 20111231003704.m2ts.modd

It is played by PLAY MEMORIES HOME, the software accompanying the camera.

I do have a snapshot of the video, clearly showing the volor abberations. I tried to add it as an attachement to my question, but it was not possible.

I do not know if the image I attache now can be seen !

May be I am doing something wrong again !

Best regards

Hello ego

I can see an image in your attachment and the colour problem that you are describing. I don't know if Mick2011 will agree with me on this, but I would guess that there is a problem with the video processing software within the camera (I believe that the physical sensor would be the same for photos and videos - please correct me if I am wrong :smileyhappy:).

This error may therefore be resolved by performing a full reset of your camera and the procedure for this is described here on page 72 of the manual:

http://pdf.crse.com/manuals/4416299111.pdf

I would use something like a paperclip as this should fit neatly into the reset hole. If this procedure doesn't fix the problem, there may be a physical error that requires a repair but before we worry about that let's see if this fixes it first of all.

Thanks,

Simon

Hi blaireau_photo,

Thank you gor your time !

I actually followed your instructions to the letter, but to no avail. Yet there is something new :

The PC where the colors display wrongly is a desktop. I tried the same video on a laptop that I have, and miraculously the colors appeared absolutely normal !

I have not yet checked the video on a TV screen ( My wife is busy with it all day long ....). I hope there will be no problems on the TV.

Any suggestions ?

Best regards,

EGO

Hello again

If you're getting faultless video with a different PC the problem almost certianly lies with the connetion to the desktop machine.

My first thought on seeing your example image was a poor cable connection. Check the PC USB port is clean and the plug is properly seated.

If you still have the problem the next most likely culprit is the software you are using to upload and edit the video. Try a different app – download something free like Windows Movie Maker and see if that makes any difference.

Cheers

Mick

Hello Mick2011,

Thank you very much for your persistence to resolve my problem. I have come to the conclusion that it is a ….. metaphysical one :

I asked a friend who has a laptop with a big hard disk and big memory to assist me. We installed the software of SONY “PlayMemories Home” on his computer, in exactly the same way as on my desktop and laptop. SUCCESS : The video displays impeccable images, as on my laptop !

So we have as net result :

  1. Software “PlayMemories Home” on all -3- computers
  2. Arrangement of cables etc exactly the same ( I used all -3- available USB ports on my desktop)
  3. Faultless behavior on the laptops.
  4. Nasty behavior on the desktop.
  5. Faultless behavior in ALL machines as far as photos are concerned.

I shall try to convince another friend to install the “PlayMemories Home” on his desktop machine and try to see what happens.

Until then, I have come to the conclusion that the camera is a …. Racist :

Hates desktop machines !

Jokes apart, I shall try the camera on my TV screen. If it is OK, then endgame.

By the way, do you know any software that can convert the “m2ts” or “m2ts.modd” files to the usual “mp4” or “AVI” ?

Many thanks again,

Best regards

Sounds like a very interesting troubleshooting trail you have going there, EGO  Be sure and let us know whare the problem turns out to be.

There are a number of free and commercial apps for AVCHD file conversion; just Google it. Is there any reason why you don't want to export an AVI or MP4 from the usual PlayMemories or Windows Movie Maker? It's pretty standard stuff for these free apps.

Hi Mick2011,

My latest news :

  1. Quality of video “m2ts” when converted to “mpeg2” HQ using PlayMemories : Good, colors displayed impeccably, but image quality inferior to initial  “m2ts”. This is the best PlayMemories can do.
  2. Quality of video “m2ts” when converted to “avi” using the software “Apecsoft M2TS to AVI”: Colors displayed impeccably, image quality exactly the same as in initial  “m2ts”, BUT tremor when displayed ( as in old documentary films). I suspect something is wrong with the frame rate, which I cannot set to 50 fps using Apecsoft.

I came to the conclusion to solve the problem by eliminating it. I will connect the laptop to my TV screen and everything will be OK.

Thanks a lot for your help !

Cheers,

EGO
