I recently purchased an Xperia E1, which works very well. However, I am finding it impossible to install an operational email account. I tried Hotmail, & went through the guided process a few times, but it repeatedly insisted that my password, email address or client was incorrect, even though I know that I entered the correct details. I gave up on that after several failed attempts. I then tried Yahoo, & that actually installed, & emails were delivered to the inbox. However, when I wrote an email to a friend, to test it out, & I hit the "send" key, I received an immediate notification "Message not sent", with no explanation why. I tried a few times, with the same result, & the messages were just put into my outbox. This is very frustrating, & if anyone has any idea why this is happening, or how it can be resolved, it would be much appreciated

For Hotmail, i would use Exchange ActiveSync. Go to Settings -> Add account -> Exchange ActiveSync and enter your email address and password. Then tap Manual setup and use these settings:
Domain\Username: \your email address
Password: your password
Server: m.hotmail.com
Use secure connection (SSL): enabled
Port:443
For Yahoo i recommend that you check that the settings for outgoing email is set to port 465 and that TLS/SSL is enabled.
Another solution is to use the app from these providers instead:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.yahoo.mobile.client.android.mail
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.outlook.Z7
