Help with VAT back form

Hi folks,

I've recently bought a Sony NEX-5 camera with the intention of sending off for the VAT back, but am a little confused with a couple of things on the application.

Firstly, the European Guarantee form.  I have one, but as the camera was ordered online it arrived within the Sony sealed box, and as such has not been stamped by the shop that I bought it from.  Does it need to be stamped for the purpose of the VAT back claim, or is it only stamped if/when you return the item under the guarantee?

Secondly, the serial number and model codes are not clearly labelled on the device at all, so I was wondering if anybody with a NEX-3 or 5 can shed some light.  Is the model just "NEX-5", or do I have to specify the package that I bought?  On the box it says "NEX-5 D" I think, because I have the dual lens kit, however on the bottom of the camera it just says Model No: NEX-5.  The serial number is not marked at all, but again, there is a sticker on the bottom of the camera with a number of about eight digits printed on it.

Any help you can give would be appreciated!

Hi it is not important if the Garantee form is not stamped, the model number entered on the form need to match that on your proof of purchase, ie NEX-5D then the same , you will find the serial number on the base of the camera and also on the bar codes on the box, it wil have SO1- befor the serial number.

I hope this helps

My Guarantee form was in sealed package w/out stamp and other details.

Do I need to fill model, serial number, etc. myself or just send it as is?

Thanks.

You can download a copy of the European Guarantee from here: -

Fill in the model and serial number.

I don't think that was really the question.  He already has the form, he just wants to know whether to just send it "as-is" with the VAT back claim form, or if anything has to be stamped or filled-in.

Judging by the posts from specialist-convergence, the answer is no, though I'm interested to hear if you think it does need to be filled-in at all.

That's right. Actually, I have got an answer from Sony rep.,

"Thank you for your recent e-mail received on 16/12/2010 10.38 PM.

After  reading your e-mail I can confirm that you do not need to fill anything  out and all you need to do is send it with the receipt. This will still  enable to to claim the VAT back.

I hope this information is of some assistance. Thank you for your enquiry.

Yours sincerely

How long do we have to wait for the VAT back? I'm feeling like this is a con...i have been waiting for a month now with no communication from Sony except for when i phone them and they tell me they are still processing the claim. I won't be buying Sony products again.

Be patient.  They probably have thousands and thousands of claims to go through, and at the moment everybody is on holiday (assuming they don't send the claims abroad).

Expecting them to call you every few days and update you on the processing of your claim is expecting a bit much.  Most likely a little Polish or Indian chap is looking through your forms, and as such the UK customer services would have no idea on the status of your claim.  You'll know it's been done when you see the money in your bank - so keep an eye on that.

I'm just finishing off my forms now...

Hi

Thought I would just drop into this conversation and see however everyone is fairing with their Vat-Back claims?

As RJUK2010 suggests, this promotion has been very popular and, along with the weather/general time of year, has seen the ladies and gents at the fulfilment worked to the limit to get through them all.  Despite this, the number of complaints we are seeing here and via the call centre seems to be relatively small.  For the most part I believe the applications are being processed and completed within the given time period, although obviously feel free to tell me if this isn’t the case.

Best regards
Lee
