BBC i player disappears after firmware update BDP S580

Hello Everyone

I have owned a BDP S580 BluRay player since just before Xmas. It has built in wireless so we can stream internet content from a wireless router. We have been enjoying BBC iplayer until a couple of days ago when we turned on the unit and there was a different look to the "video" section of the XrossMediaBar screen thingy.

There appears to have been an update of firmware which must have happened automatically via wireless, and we now have all sorts of previously unseen internet content available, but we don't have BBC iplayer included in the list now.

I spoke to a chap at Sony he said to connect to the internet direct and re-install the latest firmware. I did this but the bdp said "Already updated" and sure enough the latest firmware reference number was in the system. He also said try reconnecting the wireless link, so I did that and no difference.

I see this has occurred sometimes in the past  on other units but nothing all that recent or with my model.

Does anyone have any ideas on this? I would appreciate any help, Thanks for any advice

Cheers

Strange, yes its picking up the wrong regions services for some reason. Might just be a temporary glicth as devices normally sync with the server list every couple of days.

Few other things to try.

  • Power cycle - just leave it unplugged for 5 minutes.
  • Reboot your router modem.
  • Give your ISP a call and get them to reset your connection at their end - hopefully by giving you a fresh IP address, it will force it to get the right list..

Hope this helps

Hi

Sounds like a software glitch, so if you do a factory reset on the device and I think there is another option marked 'delete all personal information' or something similar, this will force it to reconnect to the Sony server and get the correct list of services which includes iPlayer.

Hope this helps

Hi and thanks Catmambo for your speedy response.

I have followed your suggestion, reset to factory settings, set it all up again, reconnected to the wireless router

It had nothing in the video list but an option saying something like select to acquire internet content, which I selected, and after a pause while it acquired the internet content, the same selection of services appeared but still no BBC iplayer.

We have a number of new german spanish and french options since the update, plus youtube eurosports etc but no BBC iplayer still.

Is there anything else I could try? Once again thanks for your help  - appreciate any further thoughts!

Having looked a bit harder at it there do seem to be an enormous number of Spanish language sources - almost like it has gone to the wrong bit of the Sony server for some reason?

You were right !!

I have switched it all off, reset everything to factory settings reconnected to the wireless and the  internet and it has English language sources again including  BBC iplayer Love film etc etc   Didn't need to contact ISP.

Don't know whether it was just a time thing or whether all the resetting worked this time for some reason. Anyway  thanks very much indeed for your help - back to normality !
