Hi all,
sorry if this is mentioned elsewhere but I couldn't find it anywhere.
I recently bought a BDP-S185 in February 2012 with the attraction of BBC iplayer and lovefilm etc. And its been doing it's job wonderfully until yesterday. I hhave just got back from a two week trip and when i tried to watch iplayer it's caused my Blu-ray player to freeze on the 'wallpaper' (normal blue line bckground thing, but without the menus).
It wont respond and after quite a while will just turn itself off. Everything else works, and I've tried turning it off at the wall and trying again, a factory reset (though I think thats only regarding the settings) and the firmware is up-to-date.
Has anyone else had a similar issue and if so, how did you resolve it?
Many thanks

I got mine working again, i completely disconnected it from everything, left it a while, plugged it back in, tried to update firmware, did a factory reset twice and it worked! A bit slow to start up but it didnt crash this time. I'm going to keep an eye on it though and it starts to freeze again I'll let you all know. Hope this helps
is it still ok for you then? Mine is not working despite resets - no answer from Sony tech support either...
I have a brand new Sony BDP-S185 out of the box, latest firmware pre-installed and I am experiencing exactly the same issue (select iPlayer, then freezes showing the Sony blue line wallpaper). The box requires a full power cycle to return to normal operation. I logged a ticket with Sony telephone support and was told that the problem is widespread and known about, believed to be an issue with network servers and engineers are working on it.
Considering this has been ongoing for the OP since 8th July, I am surprised it has not been fixed yet. Would anyone from Sony care to comment on a timescale for a fix, more detail of the fault? I love the features of the player and spent ages picking a new Blu-Ray player but as I will use iPlayer as much as BD this is dead in the water at the moment and considering a return within my 7 day window!
Yes, same here too. All good except BBC I-player which freezes everything.
It's been over a month since the original post too.
Still being looked at - engineers couldn't replicate the problem from their side as it seems quite intermittant, but there seems to be a fair few people with similar issues but via different devices, so its hard to try and understand what the trigger for this is.
We'll raise with the BBC also and see if they are aware of any changes from their side.
Thanks
I bought the same Blu Ray player for the same reason - to watch BBC iPlayer.
I also have the same problem. I have loaded the latest update but iPlayer is the only thing that is not working!
When you click on Iplayer it tries to load but comes up with a blank screen.
If you look carefully you can see a URL near the top in blue type that says:

I cannot get this to work
Can anybody help?
Paul
My Bravia TV has started doing this today - other internet services on it work fine but when I select iPlayer I get a white screen with an error message.
I haven't tried a full reboot yet - is there an easier way to do this than unplugging it? (plug is a pig to get at).
Out of interest - are we all using TalkTalk as an ISP? It might help because TT have apparently been experiencing some network issues with iPlayer.
I'm on VirginMedia broadband and have same problem...so porb is with Sony I think.
That's good to know. I have a support log for the problem so hopefully we will get a resolution but it's certainly very slow response time from Sony engineers - never had this problem with any other manufacturer!
