Hi all,
sorry if this is mentioned elsewhere but I couldn't find it anywhere.
I recently bought a BDP-S185 in February 2012 with the attraction of BBC iplayer and lovefilm etc. And its been doing it's job wonderfully until yesterday. I hhave just got back from a two week trip and when i tried to watch iplayer it's caused my Blu-ray player to freeze on the 'wallpaper' (normal blue line bckground thing, but without the menus).
It wont respond and after quite a while will just turn itself off. Everything else works, and I've tried turning it off at the wall and trying again, a factory reset (though I think thats only regarding the settings) and the firmware is up-to-date.
Has anyone else had a similar issue and if so, how did you resolve it?
Many thanks

I too Have got mine working. It seems the auto connect settings do not work very well.
Here's What I did, similar to above.
I went to my router (homehub 3) and in advanced settings/Home Network/Device's I set the player to have a static IP 192.168.1.83.
Then in the player I went to Network Settings/Wired Setup. The chose Custom then Specify IP.
Ip Address was the static IP i put in the router.
Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway (for Homehub3) 192.168.1.254
Primary DNS 62.6.40.178
Secondary DNS 62.6.40.162
Get your ISP dns info from here... http://www.whatsmydns.net/dns/uk/
I also tried all of the additional DNS IP's.. All of which work.
I chose No Proxy and then Save and connect. All works Fine.
Also if you cannot find your DNS you can use Google's Free and Fast DNS servers.
I tried these and they work also 100%
Other settings same as before.
Primary DNS 8.8.8.8
Secondary DNS 8.8.4.4

Mine too is staying here now all is working correctly.
Cheers Paul for pointing me in the right direction.
I got the s185 blu ray player at christmas, Using a etheral brigde and everything but bbc iplayer is working.
Ok, so i have done everything suggested on this thread and nothing has worked. At first i could go on to bbc iplayer and choose a program and thats when it would freeze but now im lucky if it gets on to the homepage at all.
Seriously annoyed sony.
The silence from Sony for a fix is very poor customer service. I think I will have to sell my now faulty S185 as it wont work on Iplayer and get a Samsung.
I think there should be a product recall on these as they are still selling them and they dont work properly.
I bought an S185 from Sainsbury's last wekend as I wanted a BluRay player anyway but the main selling point was the ability to watch HD programmes via iPlayer.
Similar experience to most of you. iPlayer loaded the first time I used it but gave an error message and wouldn't play anything. Ever since all I get is the blue wall-paper screen and a frozen device which will eventaully switch itself off.
I've tried all the fixes on here including several re-sets and deleting and re-loading all the apps. I've manually configured the DNS settings to those of my ISP (Virgin) but all to no avail.
Very dissappointed and seriously considering returning the it but don't think I can find a similar device for the same price.
I'm having this problem too, and my player freezes so severely no matter which fix I try that I've just given up.
If Sony could PLEASE find a fix rather than ignoring us, that would be great. I bought this damn player for its ability to play LoveFilm and BBC shows and I'm fed up that it can only do one of these things. Thankfully I got it cheap in a sale... although now I'm wondering if all these players are being discounted because the sellers know they're faulty!
Poor show, Sony. Please keep us posted.
Just got a BDPS185B Blu-Ray and exactly the same problems with the BBC i-Player as all the others.
At first switch on I got a list of programmes, selected one, was asked if I was over 16, said yes and then I just get the blank screen with the blue logo across. After this there is no control possible and the only way one can get control back is to pull the mains plug.
All correctly setup with a fixed IP and the correct primary and secondary DNS addresses for my network provider. I am an engineer to I know this is not finger trouble on my part.
I have tried a number of things mentioned in the this and other threads and forums including a full factory reset. Amazingly even after a reset the same behavior was observed, the kit did not revert to the start-up behaviour.
All other net applications work fine, it is just the (most useful) BBC I-player.
I must say I have never seen such a widely publicised fault remain unfixed for so long.
Having the same problem with the 185 sony have just burried their head in the sand!!!!!! tried every fix on here but still the iplayer doesnt work
In a way I'm glad to see this forum as I was really wondering what I di wrong. How comes we are on a Sony forum, and none of the sony's employes did get back to this issue. I mean BBC player is one of the 4 or 5 main function on this DVD player...
Really poor company adn shame we can only grunt on here..
Exactly the same problem with bbc iplayer on the s185 and not an issue on my other Sony equipment!
Poor to still be selling a faulty product and no solution! Back to the shop!
