BDP-S185 freezing when BBC iplayer is selected

Hi all,

sorry if this is mentioned elsewhere but I couldn't find it anywhere.

I recently bought a BDP-S185 in February 2012 with the attraction of BBC iplayer and lovefilm etc. And its been doing it's job wonderfully until yesterday. I hhave just got back from a two week trip and when i tried to watch iplayer it's caused my Blu-ray player to freeze on the 'wallpaper' (normal blue line bckground thing, but without the menus).

It wont respond and after quite a while will just turn itself off. Everything else works, and I've tried turning it off at the wall and trying again, a factory reset (though I think thats only regarding the settings) and the firmware is up-to-date.

Has anyone else had a similar issue and if so, how did you resolve it?

Spent half an hour on the phone to Sony and seem to be doing nothing to fix, despite being aware of issue.

So, back to the shop with it!

Try this: In the menu section: goto Internet Browser > Then on the handset, press Options. Then goto Browser Setup > Set Javascript setup to Valid.

This certainly works on the BDP-S590 3D Blu Ray Player. Hope it works for you too.

Just tried fix below, it works !

When son used Facebook on new BDP S490 .. a msg about toggling Java to "invalid" was suggested by the device "to improve stability " ... so we did & after that found next day iPlayer did not load ( iguess cos it needs JAVA)

As far as I can see, this doesn't work on the S185, as it doesn't have an Internet Browser option on the menu. I've searched in vain for a way to toggle Javascript. on the S185. The post above should probably be untagged as the solution.

I've tried changing the DNS settings to both my ISP (O2) and Google, both with and without a static IP address for the Blu Ray player to no avail.

I have just updated the software and the iplayer now works. slow but good work by Sony!

so it's nearly the end of 2013 and all the previous posts highlighting unsatisfactory use of Sony BDP-S185 not playing iplayer are from 2012, so I'm thinking that, unhappily, the problem is still continuing.

I would like a very swift reply Sony support please, as iplayer was working fine until last night and I want this fixed before Christmas when as you can imagine it will be extremely disappointing if my family can't watch Christmas shows.

Odd how bbc iplayer works on all my other devices. 

I've actually for the first time completely lost the ability to load bbc iplayer through my blu ray player. I'm not happy as it's connected to my main TV.

I actually get an error which is a black screen with what looks like a hyperlink which ends with /largescreen/
