BDV-E370 sound lag with games console

Can anyone help?

I've bought a KDL-40EX503 and a BDV-E370 blu ray surround sound system and connected it up to my games console and Freeview box. Everything is fine except when playing games, there is a distinct sound delay that is making the games unplayable, especially FPS.

I've connected the

  • BDVE370 to the TV via HDMI cable in HDMI port 1 (ARC)
  • TV to the BDVE370 with an optical digital cable
  • HUMAX FOX HDR to the TV via HDMI port 2
  • games console to the TV via HDMI port 3

In theory, the sound should go from the console to the tv via the HDMI and then the sound goes back to the BDVE370 via the optical cable. However there is a definate delay of about 200-300ms, so when a gun is shot, the sound comes later. When I play the sound through the TV, it is perfectly in sync.

I can't solve it by altering the lip sync delay because the sound comes after the video altering that setting would only make it worse. I've also tried disconnecting the HDMI cable between the console and the TV and connecting via component cables instead with the optical cable directly from the console into the BDV-E370, but I get no sound at all then.

Very frustrated. My old DVD surround sound system played the sound perfectly.

Is it a design fault?

When switched back to dolby digital the delay problem comes back. I've realised that because the BDV is plugged into the ARC HDMI socket, the optical cable is not required. I've also tried connecting the console using component cables and used the optical cable between the console and the BDV directly and get no sound at all then, unless the Audio Return Channel is turned off in the BDV and then I only get stereo sound and also with the delay. I can't be the only person to have this problem - does anyone else? Sony support have got back to me to suggest that I should remove the optical cable and to make sure I have the correct inputs selected. I'm awaiting a further response.

I had similar issues with a Karaoke unit, tried every which way t ocnnect it to TV or BDV and still had the lag. I have not manage to find a solution yet

Hi All

Most audio video products will suffer from a degree of lag when being used with an external amplifier and an LCD TV, as the sound and image are being controled by two different products, most modern AV equipment has the ability to adjust this by what is known as AV sync, see page 33 of the instruction manual

Guys!

There is a request for everyone with lip sync issues to call them (see below re the number though) and give details:

http://sonycic.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/1805/~/home-cinema-lip-sync-issue

Get on there and let them know this needs fixing!!

BUT the number quoted is (at the moment, I did tell them) wrong. It is not 0844 84 666 555 it is 0844 8466 555.

Cheers!
