I've a BDP-S370 which seems to be randomly stalling on playback of web content, particularly iPlayer. Interestingly cBeebies programmes seem to be unaffected and BBC 2 seems to have the most issues but this may just be a red herring. Does anyone have any recommendations? I'm with ISP Zen.

Hi All.
My BDP-S370 Player also has great difficulty steaming any HD and some SD content even though I have 20mg Broadband ( I have done regular speed tests to check that this is the speed I'm getting ).
It gives me some comfort to know that I am not the only one with this frustrating problem.
I firstly though the constant on and off "Loading Message" was due to my terribly weak Sony UWABR100 Wireless Dongle, but after I hard wired the player to my router, I found that I still got the same loading message when playing any HD Qriocity On-Demand Movie, BBC HD Programmes, and sometimes Lovefilm Movies.
I contacted (the poorly trained and very unhelpful) Sony Customer Services, and they blamed my Isp provider, and when I contacted my Isp, they blamed the player, as My PC and Laptop work fine streaming HD, so i'm going around in circles.
Updating to the latest software version made no difference, and tweaking settings in my D-Link 615 router have had no affect.
It seems that this is a fault with this player and I hope sony releases a software update very soon to correct this, as It makes HD content unwatchable.:smileysad:
Experiencing the exact same issue with bdps370 here. Only started since got back after new year. I was blaming O2, thought they were traffic shaping the iplayer traffic.
Seriously thinking of getting rid of the S370, the networking support is extremely buggy and poor. Had to buy a new router to even get it to work with DHCP properly.
Hope someone at Sony is reading this thread.
I'm with Virgin on a solid 9.8 Mb/s connection & no problems streaming iPlayer content to PC.
When I first bought my BDP-S370 (about 6 months ago) it worked fine, but over the last few months HD is basically unusable. It's no longer a question of if it will stall - just when.
Really disappointed that this hasn't been sorted after so many complaints.
I'm going to change the player later in the year as the sound on my Bravia TV (which is otherwise fantastic) is nowhere near as good as my 10 year old Wega! so upgrading to a Home Cinema system.
I really like the look of the forthcoming BDV-S780W and have been a Sony fan for many years, but now seriously thinking it might be a risky choice.
The problem is due to a change the BBC made to iplayer back in December.
All streamed content is now delivered secured, people were ripping it (especially the HD content) with things like Get_Iplayer, maxing out the bandwidth rather than trickling the content down like it does when you watch it via a stream. (They made the stream secured thus stopping things like get_iplayer from working).
Iplayer will now perform absolutely rubbish on any device that handles any type of secured connection to any web content poorly (thats several set-top boxes, Net connected TVs and loads more).
The problem is highlighted even more if you use a device like that over wireless.
This is not a Sony issue, its due to changes made to iplayer.
Thanks for the info. Interesting.
Time to go back to a HTPC I think.

Are you sure about this? What kind of "secured" are you referring to? Do you have links to more information?
I don't want to sound sceptical, but your message is a bit light on details, and I haven't seen any other mentions of added iplayer security since the SWF verification thing, and that was quite different. get_iplayer and the XBMC iplayer plugin are still working, as far as I know.
Managed to watch two programs on iplayer last night and then the system would not work.
The iplayer would just hang, only BBC iplayer , 5OD was working perfect , amazing picture quality for Neighbours pity it was not the program I wanted to watch.
ISP : talk talk
Speed : 4.4M
Only iplayer
Firmware : very recent downloaded 16Jan11
No mater what I tried, reset router, powered on and off TV ...no iplayer
Was so disappointed....
I have the same issue with BDP S370. Seems to be getting worse recently - I have 14Mb broadband speed from Be
I am also experiencing problems with iplayer for the last few weeks.
ISP: O2
Speed: 3 Meg
Programs will play for around 15 minutes and the stop to buffer for a minute, play for a minutes, buffer etc.
If I exit the program and restart, fast forward to where I was, then it will play for around another 15 minutes before doing the same.
No problems with Lovefilm or Qriocity.
I have run a speed test on my PC at the same time and the speed does not drop so it does not appear to be an ISP issue.
I to have a new Sony TV Bravia KDL ex403 bought specically for the iplayer so am really disapointed that for the last week this has not worked properley. You are a big enough company with enough clout so should be able to sort this out with the BBC whats the point of selling the TV with this if customers cant acsess this.
