Content buffering despite high speed connection.

I've a BDP-S370 which seems to be randomly stalling on playback of web content, particularly iPlayer.  Interestingly cBeebies programmes seem to be unaffected and BBC 2 seems to have the most issues but this may just be a red herring.  Does anyone have any recommendations?  I'm with ISP Zen.

Yet another with the problem, seems only to affect iPlayer on my BDP370.

ISP: Be usually connected at 7mb

Firmware: M03.R.695

iplayer thru laptop unaffected. Copper between BDP and Router.

Used to work fine a couple of months ago, now unusable.

It might be worth checking out if ISP's have introduced a proxy server.  I had trouble with my S370 with Virgin Broadband but set up the proxy as per the IPlayer support pages and now it works fine.

I still get the odd stall here and there (mostly at busy times) but for the most part I've not had any trouble with IPlayer or indeed any of the other content.  I run a hardwired connection.

I can guarantee that Zen do not run a proxy server or any other traffic shaping or filtering.

Let's just say I have insider knowledge and leave it at that...

Be was certainly sold on the premise they did no traffic shaping.

After finding this thread last night, I successfully watched the same programme the BDP had failed on, via my Sony Bravia KDL-40EX403, which is hooked directly into the same router as the BDP.

This seems like a FW issue if you ask me, far as I can tell, it's just not buffering sufficiently during playback.

I've had this problem and been contributing to this thread since the start of the new year.

With O2 8meg couldn't watch anything iPlayer on my BDPS370 (SD or HD) for more than ten or fifteen minutes before constant buffering would make the programme unwatchable. As with other posters iPlayer on PC was fine.

On Monday I had BT Infinity installed (40meg). Last night I was able to watch a whole one hour HD stream and a half hour SD stream on the S370 perfectly with no stalls or buffering.

Admittedly this was just one night and I may see the problem return, but when you read through this thread and see the majority of people with this problem seem to be on the O2/Be network it makes you think.

Maybe just the extra bandwidth from the Infinity product masks the problem although it's still there?

Is it possible some type of proxying or shaping O2 are doing is conflicting with something on the S370? Maybe something to do with LLU providers?

Will post back in the next few days if the problem re-surfaces with BT.

+1 on this problem with the S570. Our problems started around the same time as other complaints here. We use Be broadband, but the variety of ISPs suggests to me that it's not really an ISP issue. We certainly should have enough bandwidth available, and we've tested at various times during the day (so it's unlikely to be traffic shaping, which Be suggest they don't do).

I asked Sony's support, and I got this unfortunate response:

Having looked into this for you, I can confirm that there are no known issues with this model.  Such issues would be documented within the support section of our website.

I recommend performing the latest firmware update for your Blu-ray player to verify if this resolves the issue.  The latest firmware version for your model can be found at the below web address:

http://support.sony-europe.com/tvhc/downloads/downloads.aspx?site=odw_en_GB&f=BDPS470_570_v752&v=v2&...

If the issue persists, this may indicate that your home network may not have the bandwidth to stream HD High Definition, therefore, I recommend using SD Standard Definition.

Further to this, I recommend lowering the quality, which can either be adjusted within the BBC iPlayer's own Settings menu, or by choosing the quality at the beginning of the programme you are about to view.

I trust that this information is useful to you.

In short, it wasn't useful at all.

I don't think it's a bandwidth problem as, like a couple of other posters here, I have a sony Bravia KDL 37ex 503 internet TV which is connected to the same router as my S370.

The TV plays I-player perfectly but the S370 buffers every 10 mins.

Given Sony's reluctance to acknowledge this thread, maybe it's time to start getting proactive. Tweeting at @SonyInternetTV is a good start, maybe we can shame them into pulling the finger out.

I updated to .742 a few days ago and sat down last night to watch "The Chinese are coming" pt 1 in HD.

Flawless.

Of course this is a one off, so need to see a lot more first. I do note I've seen no issues with the current internet connection for iplayer from PCs or Samsung -- ever (only had it a month). The connections is approx 31 Mbps down, 8 Mbps up measured data speeds (inc. peak)

So far too early to tell - I had issues before..

I have just upgraded to latest version, as per previously post "UPDATA_M03R742"

and SURPRISE the fault remains. Top Gear stalled at 17mins and 46 secs.

Unable too start again.

Yippee.  NOT!
