I would be grateful if someone could help me with the final hurdle updating my Sony PVR's firmware.
I'm trying to get to version 1.70 (which I understand is as far as the updates for this product go).
I've been told that it's advisable to update to version 1.66 first, then go from there to version 1.70.
I've downloaded the two file (versions 1.66 & 1.70) and now trying to copy them to a CD that the RDR-HXD870 can read.
I know I must use a new blank CD-R for each update file and that only one firmware update file can be burnt to the each CD, so I will need 2 new blank CD-Rs (one for each firmware update file)..
The Sony instructions say the CD must use "disc-at-once mode and ISO 9660 CD-ROM file system format".
I have little idea what this means, except that it is some sort of basic CD burn process, without fancy bells & whistles provided by some CD burn packages.
I'm using a desktop computer with a built-in DVD RW Drive, running Windows 10.
I've tried burning CDs in different ways, also formatting them first and not formatting at all, but the PVR just ejects them, either without comment, or displaying 'CAN'T USE'.
Someone out there must have done this successfully, so if you could please help me, that would be very greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Have a look here. Its a long time since I have done this but certainly older versions of Ashampoo allowed creation of the discs. Several on this forum have used this successfully:
Thanks very much.
I will give it a try - I have an ancient, mothballed PC, which I think has an old Ashampoo version installed, so will go there first.
I just want the machine to work properly - not much to ask you'd think, but what a palaver!
Anyway, your reply is much appreciated.

Hey sheneker, all the steps should be listed here if you didn't come across it https://www.sony.co.uk/electronics/support/home-video-dvd-players-recorders/rdr-hxd870/downloads/Z00...
Hello Hannah,
Thanks for taking the trouble to draw that to my attention.
I have seen that before and my problem is burning the file to a CD-R in ISO 9660 format, as new CD-burning software appears not to include that as an option.
I'm currently receiving help from Ashampoo in Germany, who assure me that one of their CD-burning software products will do the trick. So now we're finding the right software and hopefully I'll get the PVR firmware updated and working properly before too long.
Thanks again.
Did you try Ashampoo's free offering. Search Ashampoo and select these options. I don;t know if these latest versions allow what we need though.

And at your own risk although the site has a decent reputation:

Hey sheneker, thanks for the update! Let us know how it goes, please.
