Hello
I have recently purchased a Sony STR-DH520 AV receiver and have my PS3 and PC connected to it and then have it connected to my Sony KDL-EX723 55" TV all by Hi Spec HDMI Cables. When first connected it worked fine. However now when I switch on the PS3 the picture and sound does not come on the TV. Sometimes when I fiddle with the wires or PS3 it comes on like there is a loose connection but I do not think this is the case. Also sometimes i can hear the sound for a few seconds and see the signal being detected on the AV Display but this goes on and off in line with the few seconds of sound i can hear. I have connected my PS3 direct to my TV and it works fine. I have also used a different HDMI lead and also used a different HDMI port on the AV receiver but still get the same result. I have changed my PS3 Audio output and tried both Bitstream and LPCM but again still the same result. Are you aware of anything that could be causing this. I purchased a high end HDMI Lead to ensure that it would support the latest protocols. As an alternative I have connected my PS3 direct to my TV which then outputs the sound to the AV reciever via the ARC HDMI port but I am not sure whether my Sony TV and ARC port passes on the full 5.1 signal to the AV receiver. Any suggestions ?
Thanks

Ok
Ignore me guys - Just me being an idiot. Where the TV is on the wall the HDMI in the ARC port was squashed up against the wall so it was this connection that was the issue. Replced it now with a 90 degree HDM Lead and all fixed.
If anyone is interested very good solution to this problem :
Hi there
Just going to sum this up:
Do you have the same problems with the PC connected to the same problem ports on the AMP? Assuming PC is connected via HDMI?
Do you have any other HDMI device that you can test on the DH520 (ie a bluray player/dvd) - I think what we need to ascertain is whether the HDMI ports on the AV Receiver are faulty (as thats what im thinking at the moment)
BTW, when outputting audio from the PS3 through the TV to DH520, it will output 5.1 surround sound. Look at the speaker indications on the front display - They will tell you what speakers that the AV Receiver is using (ensure sound field = A.F.D Auto)
Cheers
Hi Thanks for the reply.
Yes to Sum up :
PS3 to AV reciever via the Game HDMI Port which is specifically for PS3,( Some time works )Some times does not.
PS3 to AV reciever different HDMI Port ( Some time works ) Some times does not.
PS3 to AV reciever different HDMI Lead ( Some time works ) Some times does not.
PS3 to TV (Works every time).
I do have another Blue Ray player so will test that with the ports and get back to you .

I am glad you have figured out what the cause is. Its sometimes very hard to know what the problem is, without actually seeing how its all set up (physically).
Thank you for coming back and posting the solution, it may assist others (and im always curious to know myself)
Have a good Xmas.
