Sony media remote, STR-DN1020 wont register on HTC Desire S

Hi,

I bought  new STR-DN1020 today and cannot get the device to register with Sony Media Remote on my Android HTC Desire S.

When I attempt registration, the STR-DN1020 sees and displays my 'phone name, however Sony Media Remote reports "The number of devices that can be registered has been exceeded.".

I have checked the STR-DN1020 and there is nothing registered with it (as expected for a new box) and my Sony Media Remote only has the 'Demo Player" device registered (which annoyingly I can't seem to delete).

Please help! A primary consideration for buying the STR-DN1020 was to control it from a handset and I'm seriously considering returning it.

Cheers

If anybody else had the same problem I have discovered the cause (for me) and a fix.

Cause

My Virgin Media Superhub router, without any changes by me (completely out of the box), had allowed one of the PCs on my network to configure port forwarding via uPnP for a Windows Media Player device (the PC is running Windows 7 and again, I had made no config changes to allow this to happen).

*  uPnP was switched on in my router (Universal Plug & Play)

*  A Windows 7 PC on the network auto configured the portmap for Windows Media Player in my router

My fix

I turned off uPnP in my router.

-----

I never configured anything special on my network that would cause this error - everything was due to my router and PC auto-configuring portmaps.

if you experience the same error as me, check your router.

Message was edited by: mike_edinburgh It was a reboot of the router that allowed me to register, however as soon as I quit and restarted Sony Media Remote I had the same problem after it automatically deleted my registered device (Sony - please give more user control and don't force delete). Same error. Another router reboot and go through registration did work again, however the same error occurred again after restarting Sony Media Remote. Really confused now 😕

On my streamer SMP-N200 I had the same problem with my Samsung Galaxy s2 as it would not see my phone at all as a media remote. I realised I could access my NAS server namely WD LiveBook 2TB using the WD2Go android app. So after much head banging as I'm an IT Engineer I had a brainwave. I connected to WD2go and left it running and then went back to the Media Remote app and voila it found the N200 and the N200 found the phone. It seems the N200 needed to be helped with extra network activity as it connects all the time without have the WD app running at all. So for those of you that have similar products hook up your phone to your network with another app and then try the SMR again.

I hope this helps
