STR DN1080 display panel not working

Hi, a few days ago the LCD display panel on my Sony STR DN1080 just stopped working. The amplifier functions normally otherwise apart from the fact that I can only use the on screen displays to see what I am doing.

It isn't the dimmer setting, that was the first thing I tried. I also tried to restore factory settings, although of course I couldn't see the clearing/cleared messages - that didn't help. Then I have downloaded and installed the latest software update, again to no avail. The only lights that work are the power on/off, and the pure direct.

Does anyone have any suggestions by any chance please?

Hi BigRonnie1,

Welcome to the community.

I'll see if I can find this out for you. Maybe someone else in the community can help in the meantime.

Thanks,

Pascale

The only time the display should turn off is when the unit is actually powered off, or while in Pure Direct mode. It most likely has a fault otherwise.

Hi BigRonnie1,

I am not sure if this will help but have you tried updating the software: https://www.sony.co.uk/electronics/support/audio-components-receivers-amplifiers/str-dn1080/download....

If this doesn't work, then I'd say get it inspected as this might be a hardware issue.

I found a link on the Sony website to locate the nearest service centre to you: https://locator.sony/en_GB/servicecenters

This might be a bit too late for you, but did you try pushing on the Panel itself?

Mine has just decided to have this issue and I managed to get it working for a short while by pushing on the middle of the panel itself.

No idea why it started doing it 😞

This is the op (I couldn't sign in to my original account to post), I never did fix it, I have just lived without the display. After reading your comment, I pushed it inwards, and sure enough the display reactivated! The only issue for me is that as soon as I take the pressure off, it comes back out and the display disappears again. Thank you so much for pointing this out, I just need to find a method of keeping it pressed in now

Should be a very easy fix for a technician. Either a dry solar joint or a faulty LCD screen.
