KDL-40NX803 apparantly there was a firmware update on Sept 27th 2011

This update (PKG4.107EUH-0108) has had no discernable impact on my set, previously running firmware ver. "PKG4.099EUH-0108" so I really don't know what has altered.

I was however advised by the "Sony Centre" where I purchased the TV, that I should expect another update before Christmas which will enable features available on current models, eg. to view web mail (Gmail) and execute "Google searches" from the television.

Can someone confirm this please?

Hmm, not sure where they have got that info from, but no such plans I'm afraid as the device has no browser to enable those kind of features.

Thanks

Whoo! that was quick!!

Thanks Catmambo, "Bummer", in that case might have to relegate this set to the bedroom!

Don't think the wife would object to bunk beds but women can be so unreasonable, don't you find?

Still a very capable TV set, and frankly there are infinitely better & easier ways of searching the web than using a TV, such as a tablet or laptop. I'd go and test out surfing the web on a TV in your local store - IMHO its massively overhyped.

Yeah, I must admit, it is the dog's danglers.

It's the only TV set I can actually just sit and admire....even when it's switched off!

I take your point with the browsing experience, lol.

Inputting via the RC would somewhat dull the experience I would imagine.
