I am looking for help on best picture settings for my sony KDL26EX320bu tv. I have tried various combinations in the picture menu to increase the brightness but the picture still appears to be on the dull side.

I own a different model but this may be help you (i was having the same issue as yours)

by using the remote reset you TV to factory setting.

At the start up the TV will ask you to choose between SHOP mode or HOME mode....you choose SHOP mode which will give you much more conrtast and deeper colors than HOME mode.

Another point you may consider, that you switch OFF the light sensor option in the menu.
