Additional RAM for Vaio SZ2XP

Hi everyone,

I have just buyed a brand new Sony Vaio SZ2XP and I'm just curious, if it is to possible to add some more memory. I'm quite sure that it is possible, but can I buy some non-Sony memory modules, which will fit in to my Vaio?

Hi jakubd,

I've never heard of MemoryTen before...

There is:

SONY MEMORY - Rip off prices

CRUCIAL - Cheaper, & well respected

KINGSTON - I prefer Crucial myself

OTHERS - What are you going to get & will it work?

I would be happy with the amount I had saved by going to Crucial rather than going even cheaper elsewhere.

The choice is yours.

Beware, I installed some Crucial memory that their online scan tool recommended. 1 week later, the blue screen of death appeared. I could not restore my system and had to send it back to Sony under warranty. The extra 1GB of crucial had helped to FRY MY HARD DRIVE!!!
So y'all be carefull

Hi scurdyness.

Can you be sure it was the actual memory modules that did this or could it have been something done during their installation?

Hey Jumpsuit,
I have had a whole mess of laptops over the years and have tweaked and up graded most of them, always without issue.
It's a simple task to insert a 1Gb module in the spare slot on the back of my Vaio, it was also very simple to boot the machine back up and then........nada....one dead laptop. Guess I was very unlucky?
Can't say I am over pleased with Sony's support (lack off...) you try getting them to fix it in another country from the one in which it was purchased...no deal! ....Dell, HP and Acer blow them away here, take note SONY!
Since then I have purchased a 1GB module from them...wow $600 (i must be crazy) but at least it works....for now

Hey Thalamus,
Nope I have not contacted Crucial, I got so pi**ed off with Sony, all my anger was directed towards them. I travel on business all the time and so I figured I just did not have the time or patience to deal with Crucial, perhaps I should have?
Interesting to note though, that using the Crucial memeory scanner after my Vaio was repaired , it recommended a completely different module?.(well a different part number at least......have others had issues?....who knows.....)
Onwards and upwards, still can't help but think I could have had 3 decent specified Acer machines for the price of this little baby....
Amen

Sorry you've had so much trouble. Crucial has been great for me, but I guess no one's infallible.
