at key not working

Help! I bought a Sony Vaio notebook on Sunday and cannot get the "at" key to work. I imagine there is a very simple answer to this... please help, this is spoiling my fun!

Check that you have the correct input language set for your keyboard. It's in Control Panel - Regional & Language Options - Languages tab - Details

I have the languages set to English, should I have them set to English US? Or is there something I am missing?

The input language should be set to English (United Kingdom)

Do you get any character when you press shift &' ?

Check what character you get when you press "SHIFT" and "2". If you get the @ sign, you keyboard is set to US english.
