Battery consumption when off!

Howdy,

Im the proud owner of a new SZ4. delicious so far... (once i delete that hidden partition  )

anyway, my comment is that i got it a week ago, charged it up whilst i was checking it out. then went away for a week and when i booted up again, the battery had lost 40% - just by sitting in the box! is this normal?

Cheers, TBK

PS - its my first laptop, so not used to any laptop quirks!

Hi TBK

Welcome to Club Vaio.

It doesn't sound right but I would give it a few cycles and see what battery life you get.

I'm not too sure how accurate Vista is with Vaio batteries!!!

If you have concerns after a bit of use, then raise a case with Sony Vaio-Link Support but don't leave it too long. I think you have a 90 day maximum.

thanks for the fast reply Blencogo.

while your here, is it wise to use partition magic to get rid of the hidden partition? Im familier with it and when i follow these instructions -
http://kb.sony-europe.com/SRVS/CGI-BIN/WEBCGI.EXE/,/?St=30,E=0000000000031768769,K=3775,Sxi=16,Case=...)
i get System Recovery Options (windows) instead of the Custom Drive Recovery, like it suugests...

Cheers in advance.

Unfortunately there is a bug in the KB link - it doesn't work.

I don't have a Vaio with Vista or one with just Drive C:\ and no Drive D:\ so I'm not much use to you.

What options are you offered by the Vaio Recovery Utility?
In XP you would be offered an option for C:\ & D:\ Recovery with Change to Partition Sizes and this would allow removal of the Recovery Partition.

EDIT: You have remembered to make a Media Recovery Kit and test that the discs work? This is your only system backup once you remove the hidden partition.

Yup, their safe.

the only partition that shows up is the main one. and then there are no options relating to partitions... Im a bit lost here with all the Sony stuff AND Vista! partition magic might just be the easiest solution...

My Vaio does this, so does my dad's Toshiba. They can't all be broken? Something is draining the batteries when the machines are supposedly switched off. Any ideas anyone?

Are you sure that it was really turn off? not on standby,, coz with vista the default turn off(like in XP) is just stanby for vista. you need to go to a small button on the lower right side (near the turn off button) and from there you can choose hibernate turn off.etc.ect.
hope this helps. If you already doing this then maybe there are some other problem then.

Are you saying that the turn off button on the start menu makes something different from suspending? Do I understand right? Well, I am not completely sure that is true: indeed, it seems to me that the action related to the turn off button can be changed by advanced options in the energy saving control panel, and the only possible options are: suspend, hybernate, halt. Any thoughts?
