Blue Screen appears after recovery process

Hi All

I hope someone can help me...please

I have a vaio VGN-A217S CEK

I recently had issus with my Outlook which caused it to freeze...after searching the microcoft website for help I managed to repair the harddrive issues and reinstall my office 2007...however my vaio has been running really slow....I eventually got time to back up all my hardrive and do a full system restore using the 2 discs supplied.

After the first disk has finishd and been ejected the vaio reboots and asks a a few questions the last is to type in a 'computer name'...and here my problem occurs...it then flashes up a blue screen for a milisecond( which I have managed to take a photo of with my digital camera) with the error message:
IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

Can someone help with how to diagnose and fix the problem please.

If I try to boot up in safe mode the screen says 'The system is not fully installed. Please run setup again.'...which offcourse goes back to stage one of this problm again.

I cant afford to throw this laptop out the window though I certainly would like to!

I have been told it may need a new harddrive but I do not want to keep changing components to find out that it is something else.

Can anyone help with determining which component has failed...thank you.

The infamous IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL, it appears when memory is corrupt, system voltage is not enough, the hard disk drive is getting close to it's death or a driver is trying to access a forbidden memory direction.

I think it's the hard disk drive. :slight_frown:

Hi Edu230

I read somewhere that people were having this problem but it occured whilst using their laptop not when they were trying to reformat the hard drive...they found the solution to be their wireless driver needed updating.

So before the computer rebooted I turned the wireless switch off.

The recovery process then continued as normal...I was able to load the 2nd recovery disk and hey presto I have a working laptop with windows!!

However, whenever I turn on the wireless switch I immediately get the bluescreen and a reboot automatically occurs.

My question is then, does this mean my Vaio needs a new wireless card (as opposed to a new hard drive) or just an update for the drivers?

Have you installed the driver updates on the download page for your model? If not, I would update the drivers first.

I see there is a Intel Wireless LAN Driver update - 10.5.1.59a available dated 10/11/2006 from here: -
