Blue screen on 5-hour-old VAIO VGN-NR11S

Hi. First - some confessions: I am an absolute newbie to this forum and am not in-depth tech knowledgeable at all. I am hoping someone out there can give me some guidance on what might be wrong and what I should do. I bought this computer today and started setting it up about 5 hours ago. About a half hour ago, the screen just went blank and a blue screen came up. The safe mode options came up, but it couldn't start up. Then the repair options came up and the first two times nothing happened, except to say that it couldn't repair. So I selected the restore point option. This let the computer work, but lost two programs I had set up - Morrowind and iTunes. I was transferring iTunes files when this happened.

I don't know if the error report actually sent, because I didn't get the information on suggestions to prevent the problem in the future, and when I first tried to log onto the Internet, there were error messages.

Can anyone give me any suggestions on what to do? I am very concerned that I haven't even had this computer 12 hours and it had such a serious error. I am pasting the error report below. Thank you for any help you can give me.

Oh yes - I tried to copy the report to Notepad, but Notepad has stopped working, apparently.

Edited to add: it has now blue screened three times.

Hi the_wiglet and welcome to Club Vaio.

Doesn't sound like the sort of start you would have wished for.

We have had numerous blue screen problems with iTunes and to identify what is causing the problem, we need the error message from the blue screen. This can be a problem as the Vaio probably automatically reboots itself and you don't have long enough to read the error message.

If you can start the Vaio, then try to turn off the automatic reboot: -

1. Click Start button.
2. From Start menu Click Control panel.
3. In Control Panel Click the System icon.
4. In the System Window look on the Left hand side of the window and you will see a list of options. Click on the Advanced System Settings option.
5. Because Computer management requires administrative privileges you may find the User Account Control will pop up. If it does then enter the required information (if you are not the administrator) or, if you are the administrator, click the Continue button.
6. In the Advanced Settings window look for the Startup and Recovery section and then Click the Settings button.
7. In the Startup and recovery window look for the section marked System failure and remove the 'tick' mark from the 'Automatically Restart' option. Now press the OK button.
8. Finally click the OK button on the System properties Window and then close the system window.

This will leave the blue screen showing.
Can you give us the full error message?
You will have to shut down by holding the Power Button down for 5 secs.
What version of iTunes have you installed?

Hi, Blencogo. Thanks for the response. I intalled the latest version of iTunes from the Apple website, so I thought that would be okay - that the issues had been resolved.

I stopped the auto-shutdown and have tried to restart the computer but it shut down anyway. The first line of the blue screen (which has now happened 7 times) said "Memory Management."

Edited: took it back to the store - they said it was bad memory and replaced the computer. Should I not install iTunes, or are there patches I should download?

(Sorry to be such a tech-illiterate newb).
