Can I connect my laptop to a tv?

Can I connect my VGN-NR31J laptop to my television set (which has all the latest connectons).

Hi rosiejane,

The only video output from your NR-Series Vaio is the 15-pin VGA (monitor) connection.

If your TV has the same 15-pin PC Input then you just need a normal monitor cable like this: -

However, most TVs don't have this connection and you will need to purchase a VGA to TV Converter Box to get the RGB signal converted to S-Video or Composite Video signal.  There is even a converter box from VGA to HDMI.  Have a look at the selection here: -

With both methods you will also need a cable from the Vaio's headphone output to the TV's audio inputs to carry sound - like these: -

Thank you so much for your detailed reply.  My tv does have a VGA input but it is coloured blue whereas the laptop output is coloured grey.  That's what was confusing me and I wanted to make sure that I was on the right track before I parted with my hard earned cash.
