Can't connect to internet, wifi or ethernet...help!

Hi, my vaio vpcEh3f1e will not connect to the Internet, via Ethernet cable or wifi. All other laptops, iPads, mobiles are connecting fine apart from this laptop. It can connect in safe mode with networking. I have tried everything I can think of.

What I have tried listed below:

DNS flushing, releasing and renewing.

Changing the it from automatically detect dns to a specified.

Ipconfig /all - I have an untrained eye but could not see anything wrong.

Rebooting everything

I had some windows updates recently so uninstalled all of them, then installed them again.

After detecting problems in network diagnostics the message "the dns server isn't responding" comes up.

Could it be something to do with my Internet security firewall?

Any thoughts welcome!

Thanks in advance.

McAfee Update

McAfee has updated a file that has caused issues with McAfee antivirus products and disruption to some customers' Internet service, for more information go here.  The link is http://mcaf.ee/s3b79

-

Problem 1

After a recent update, customers are unable to access the Internet ....
There is a long description of what to do, basically uninstall everything, download it again and reinstall.
Too late for me, I now have Norton, but if you have paid for McAfee it might save you having to buy something else.

Hi COncOn,

As you have already surmised this would seem to be a firewall problem. Have you tried disabling the Internet Security?

If you happen to have McAfee installed I suggest you remove this completely and install a more user friendly security programme such as Microsoft Security Essentials. I can hear the howls of disagreement but I have used this for over 3 years without problem - just make sure that Windows native firewall is activated.

I have the same problem that started yesterday, with my Vaio VGN-FW51MF laptop.  We have both Virgin cable broadband and BT broadband.  The PC will connect to the networks, but says 'no internet access' with a yellow warning triangle against the network connection symbol on the bottom line.  This happens with wireless and ethernet cable connections to both the broadband routers.  Both the other computers in the house can connect to the internet, one by ethernet cable to the BT router, one by wireless connection to the Virgin router.

I have McAfee installed - it came with the Vaio - and have tried disabling the firewall, but that did not work.  I am running Windows 7 Home Premium.  I have checked out the IP settings with ipconfig /all, but they match the other computer's settings in the house, except for the IP address, which the router reserves for my laptop.  I haven't yet tried removing the latest Windows updates.

Any other ideas from anyone?

Hi COncOn

I have just tried starting in safe mode with networking, and that works, as it does for you - I can get internet access.  But restarted normally, and it fails again.  COncOn, what date were your Windows updates?  I had some Windows security updates on 16th August.  Gillian

I have the same problem since 19.08 during the night... Vaio VPCSB3C5E laptop. I am using Talk Talk, but I believe there is nothing to do with the router or with the internet supplier, because all other laptops and phones and ipad are working fine. I tried the yellow cable from the router to the laptop but the YELLOW TRIANGLE WITH AN EXCLAMATION POIT INSIDE still there, so I can do nothing. I have reintalled the wireless adapters, the drive from device manager, I have checked and changedthe IP address in the internet protocol, a lot of staff in the command prompt and I am really frustrated. In safe mode with networking I can get access to the internet too... Guys, I have turned the firewall off and it asked for how long I put never and restarted the laptop and it worked. I put the firewall back on and everything is back to normal

Thank you sheilavargem and Rich.  I turned off my firewall - to the never restart option (McAfee) and restarted the laptop, but I still couldn't connect to the internet.  I looked at msconfig, and the McAfee firewall service was still running, so I just uninstalled the lot.  And now I have my internet connection back - and have installed Norton instead.  We have Norton everywhere else, and have never had a problem - I only used McAfee on the Vaio because it came pre-installed.  Thanks again!

Hi guys, I´m writing from DK and bought my Sony Vaio SVS1511V9EB 1 monyh ago. I don't know what did it, but it was a few hours till midnight the last day before the evaluation-period of McAffe Internet Security expired, and I just used Vaio-care's Performance -> Internet Performance and pressed the "Fix the issue" button.

Some where after I pressed the button, my Internet went. And haven't been available since, neither my wireless, my cabled connection or at my schools wifi. But phones, stationary computer at home and other notebooks at school could connect. But not my Vaio....

I did all I could, but nothing helped. UNTILL I came here, and uninstalled McAffe Internet Security. YEHAA!!!!

Never used McAffe before, but certainly will never now...
