Can't start windows 7 on Sony vaio.

I updated some spyware programs and since then I haven't been able to open windows on my laptop. I have retrieved my files from the hard drive. I bought my Sony vaio from Sony centre over 2 years ago so am out of warranty. I just want to restore my laptop to factory settings but don't know how. I have tried to restore  but it says there is no restore point created. I don't really know what to do.

Please can anyone suggest my options. Thanks

Hi paul2louise and welcome.

If you give us your Vaio Model Name, I'm sure someone can give you a link to the Recovery process.

When you try to start the Vaio, do you see the Vaio Logo splash-screen before it tries to load Windows?  If yes, you can tap F10 before this splash-screen disappears to start the process to Recover your Vaio to factory settings.  The exact method will depend on the model but tapping F10 will start the Recovery Process and you should choose 'Recover Complete System' then 'Skip' the next two screens to start the Recovery.

This will only work if the Recovery Partition, hidden on your hard drive, has not been deleted or corrupted.

I presume you did not make a set of Recovery Discs when you first bought the Vaio?

At start up, when the VAIO logo appears on the computer's screen, tap the F10 key and the VAIO Recovery Wizard appears.  Follow the on-screen prompts. Get more informatio http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20100626101020AALRozi
