Hi, hoping somebody can help
my cd/dvd has stopped working on my PCG-FX405
I've unistalled it and then scanned for hardware changes, restarted but still nothing. the drive is trying to read...I hear it whirling but never gets anywhere. after several attempts of inserting and removing a disk it will sometimes recognise the disk (in my computer) but still cant read it. I have tried the vaio link site posted here on previous threads but cant access the download area for possible updated driver as the site doesn't accept my serial and product codes. I'm feeling very low
because I'm THE sad
person who rushed out and bought some 3D landscape design software so I can do some virtual gardening and now I can't install my new toy!........please, if anyone can advise - you'd make a very, very old lady very, very happy

thanks for taking the time to reply. it happens with every disk..... I have managed to get to the downloads on vaio link now but not really sure what I'm looking for
Try right clicking My Computer > Properties > Hardware > Device Manager.
See any yellow exclaimation marks?
nope, no conflicts.....
Hi .... still got my cd/dvd problem, have been searching the web and just found driverguide.com list a driver for my Matshita UJDA 710 ..... biting nails now thinking "should I, shouldn't I?"
guess I need 1 of you guys to give me permission to go ahead and download/install it
A driver shouldn't cause any problems with the hardware as in damage, it might make Windows unstable. Make a restore point then do install it, but at your own risk
thanks, tried the new driver, didn't make any diff. so have re-installed old driver.......still not working though and my garden is becoming overgrown whilst I try to figure this out.
Anybody got any more suggestions?
btw... I have noticed on my travels around the WWW that I'm not the only one having this problem so I guess there must be a solution somewhere.
Hi again Kee-Lo.... yes, tried vaio-link.com, managed to access the downloads this time (couldn't yesterday for some reason
). nothing listed there that helps, although, I'm not entirely sure what I'm looking for! would it be an obvious driver for UJDA710 ?
I really appreciate your suggestions so far
