The main difference is in the screen resolution.

The AR51SU has a screen resolution of 1920 X 1200 and can display full HD output at 1080p.

The AR51J has a screen resolution of 1440 X 900 and cannot display HD output.

Double lamp technology just gives a brighter image.

 Thanks Blencogo.I knew about the resolutions and HD output, but I've read reviews on notebookcheck.com and found a very poor rating on the screen of the ar51j,whereas the ar51su got stellar rating for screen. My current Vaio,FE31M,has dual lamp screen.I'm very satisfied with it,I just want to upgrade to a 17inch,but without massive quality loss.I would really like to buy the AR51M which is the perfect "in between" for me but I can't find it here in Greece.Seems all outlets are stocking AR51J & AR51SU only.
In general I haven't heard many good things about the AR51J,which is my target price range. Is it really such a compromise model ?
Thanks again for the reply....
