Distorted sound on my Vaio

Hello, has anyone ever had distorted sound on their Vaio? I picked up a virus through a link on facebook, and although I have managed to get rid of the virus (I hope) with Kaspersky ever since the sound is very distorted, even the windows music when it loads up.

Anyone experienced this or had any ideas please?

Thank you,

Greg

Hi Greg,

Did Kaspersky say what type of virus it was? Also what does it say when you hover over your speaker icon? I'm afraid i'm unfamiliar with this, sorry :slight_frown: Someone will be able to help though

Mark.

WOOOO This is my 100th post  (and probably my least useful)

Hmm... mine says SigmaTel High Definition Audio CODEC. What is your laptop model?

Have you made sure your laptop is up to date via the page for yout model on VAIO Support? Just check there isn't an audio update you need or it may have been through Windows Update but i can't remember sorry :slight_frown:

The model is quite old and is the basic model FS415B

I haven't checked for an audi update, I will give that a go, thanks. I guess that is just a download?

Well the update may have been through Windows Update but i'm unsure. I noticed that there haven't been updates for your model in quite a while so i'm unsure

Did you buy your laptop brand new?

Yes I did, about three/four years ago from new.

I have emailed sony so maybe they come up with somthing.

Thanks for trying 🙂

Sorry for the delay Greg,

When you go on playback devices what is highlighted and does it say it is working?

Also, does this still happen when you play a dvd?

Mark.

Hope you find a solution.
