Can you please confirm that you have carried out the following?
Download the pre-installed utilities for your model from Vaio-Link.
1 Install Sony Utilities DLL (Install folder 1)
2 Install Sony Shared Library for XP (Install folder 2)
3 Install Vaio Event Service (Install folder 5)
Re-boot your computer.
Repeat this procedure up to three times if the function keys do not work immediately.

Hi osservatorio,
I am a little confused here as the links that you post result in a download for the Italian language (of which I am not familiar). But in essence there is only one download that you require.
Download the Preinstalled Utilities for Windows XP from Vaio-Link (this is model specific). This file contains all of the pre-installed utilities for your model.
Extract the file using either Winzip or Winrar and you will then see Installer folders numbered 1 to 14 plus a couple of other utilities.
Install the following in this order:
1 Sony Utilities (Utils installer 1)
2 Sony Shared Library (Utils installer 2)
3 Vaio Event Service (Utils installer 5)
Re-boot your computer.
Repeat this procedure up to three times if the function keys do not work immediately.
If this is still not clear then please do post back for further assistance.

Dear Rich912!
I am not the original poster, but I had the same problem and it worked well for me. Even the S1 and S2 which were not working do work now.
Thanks a lot for your help!

Yes it is - do you have a problem with this?
