dvd/cd drive crx820e has stopped reading dvds

hi -

on my pcg-grv616g, the dvd/cd drive has stopped reading dvds, whether pre-recorded movies or data. this isn't good 'cos i have quite a bit of data on dvds that i now need...

it's still reading cds no problem. not sure what i've done recently that may have caused this, or if it's just a fault. system restore didn't fix it (running xp home) - very possible it went wrong before last available backup anyway as i haven't been using dvds much recently. device manager says it's working correctly (!) and the troubleshooter's useless.

any suggestions?

have you installed Nero lately?

yes - nero 6 full monty from their website.

Download the Nero Registry Cleaner from the Tools section on Nero's site.

well, moved in ok & finally got round to running Nero's registry checker - but no joy, still won't read dvds
