DVD play back problem on VGN-FJ3M

I'm having lots of problems playing back DVD on the Vaio, all of which play without any problems in a DVD player.

The audio and video break up, gradually at 1st making the film watchable, until the point when it is that bad you have to stop the player.

This happens on original and backups of DVD's.

Any help/suggestions would be much appreciated.

I hadn't really thought about power when it happens, but now I have it does tend to happen more when i'm running on batteries, although it still happens when powered on the mains.

Is there something I can tweak in the power management settings when playing a DVD?

Yes, when you're on batteries you need to change to performance rather than battery life. Sadly this may mean you might not be able to watch a full DVD because it consumes a lot of power to turn the DVDs motor
