Ethernet problem

Hi all,
I have vgn a-497xp and i am having a problem with my ethernet port.
I have to move around the clip until i get connected. What should i do??

Thanks for the answer but I don't think so because i have done it over 4 times with different cables. Any other preposition guys?

If it works when you move it, it has to be a bad connection.

If changing the cable doesn't work then it must be the socket.

If your Vaio is still under Warranty contact Vaio-Link - if not then a local repairer may be best.

Short term you could but a PCMCIA Ethernet Card or a USB Ethernet Converter

Yep as Blencogo said it's a problem with the socket

A little trick:
it's possible (unlikely but possible) That the 8 little metal pieces in the socket (the cupper things that contact the cable) have been bent down a little, so they aren't pushed to the cable well enough.

You could take a needle and gently lift the little cupper plates a bit, so that they are nicely pushed against the cable's cupper wires when you connect it. Be gentle though, so you don't damage the socket.
