FAN NOISE ON SZ SERIES

My new SZ1XP/C is a real looker, it's fabulously light and it performs - but the fan is constantly whirring away - never had another laptop like it. Anybody having a similar experience?

Hi bill,

Welcome to Club vaio,

You may be able to reduce the fan noise by adjusting the settings in the Power Options Properties. These can be found in Start > Control panel > Performance and Maintenance > Power options.

It's going to be loud at the moment due to the tempretures we've had, nearly 26C yesterday

I have the same problem with a SZ2HP

When I try to change in "Vaio power management" the fan speed, nothing change

Fan is always to the max and very loud. Altough stamina mode is on and "ultime" batterie mode on.

Temp is 32 Cdegrees here, but I tried with a ibm and dell notebook, fans turns but slowly in idle
SZ2 in idle is very loud and always turn the max 1min sec after on

Do anybody have this problem or is it "normal" (means that I prefer my old IBM !) ?

Same here!
The fan is constantly on and quite noisy.
I notice a slightly improvement when I press the S2 button but not much.
To use the Stamina mode is not an option for me... I didn't buy an expensive laptop wth Core Duo 2,16 GHz to use it in the "slow" mode...!

However I'm not very surprised. Before I bought my Vaio I looked at the new Mac Pro, also with the new CoreDuo, and according to the Mac forums the new Mac's getting awfully hot.
Maybe Sony over did it when they wanted to prevent overheating?
Hopefully a firmware to fix this is coming soon!

I have the same problem. I have a lot of positive experience with the sz1. but i think a bios update is neccessary.

Guys,

Recently I have upgraged to new BIOS R0083N0, no improvement in fan noise, on the contrary I have the feeling that it is working on even higher speed now when working at AC power.

Hi.

I come back for same problem
That I solved ...

I asked to change my noisy laptop, and the new one is ... nice.
First one was loud, even in stamina mode, doing nothing, the fan was always to the max.
With the new one, its correct. Fan is quiet when I do nothing (surf, etc), and become noisy only when I encode videos or else.

So I think it was really an hardware default.

Hopefully I asked to change it in the first 15 days, so I got an exchange quickly from my sellor.

Now, I'm very happy of this laptop. I do my videos on it, its much quicker than with my P4 3ghz big tower ! for 1.85 kg laptop, its great.
