I bought my FE-11M three months ago...to remain in contact and do my work whilst in the process of emigration...
I have been using the Premiere Elements software supplied to make a DVD of a wedding I was at in July. Premiere Elements was fantastic - until I got to the DVD burning process.
I managed to burn a few successful copies, but thereafter started having terrible problems with the drive....It repeatedly wouldn't recognise disks, then would, it ended up with an error at the 99% complete mark after a 10 hour burn, it froze again and again 33.59% of the way through a burn...and every other error you can think of in between. Eventually as Premiere was producing nothing but a legion of coasters, I re-authored the DVD using Click 2 DVD. This burned 1 DVD successfully. On the second attempt the DVD burner went into some sort of spasm and started making an extremely unhealthy repetitive noise. Nothing would stop it apart from switching off completely. After that switch off, the DVD burner died completely and will recognise nothing (nor even attempt to do so)....
I'm working my way through the Sony support system at the moment, which seems reasonable by telephone, but non-existent by electronic means.
I just wanted to post a comment to counsel others thinking about purchasing Sony laptops. I have read quite a few postings on here about faulty and problematic DVD burners in Sony machines and hope the powers-that-be at Sony will pay some attention. There does seem to be a problem with this element of the kit.
From my point of view it really is very frustrating to have spent a lot of money on what I believed to be a Rolls Royce of the laptop world only to find it useless and myself helpless and computerless shortly afterwards. I'm not sure what one is expected to do during the period where a laptop is sent back to Sony for repairs if its your only computer?
