Hi fatbob25 and welcome to the forum.

I would recommend as soon as you receive your new Vaio that you do a fresh install, i.e. burn the recovery disks and then use these to recover the system. An alternative is to tap F10 at boot, when you see the Sony logo, which will take you to the recovery utility.

Depending on where the notebook has come from, or who has supplied it, you never know what is on the system. At least with a fresh install you will be assured that this is as Sony intended it to be as dispatched to you.

If this does not have the desired effect then let us know and we can suggest other alternatives.

Fresh installation should be done on all new systems, realy good advice. Its the only way to ensure theres no Adverts ,demos and other crap on that shops can install. The only other way is to boot to Dos and Fdisk/Format ect.Check your Battery is charging properly too.

Sounds like Norton or other program is immediately looking for updates on the internet and slowing the computer down.

If Vaio users Fdisk or format the hard drive they would loose the recovery partition and would be unable to restore to Sony's factory settings...:smileywink:
