I have a VGN-N11S/W and it is supposed to have a 100GB Hard Drive but I only have access to 85GB, I cant workout why this is. I turned off hibernate but that does not use much.
Help would be appreciated!
Thanks
Hi JonnyGH and welcome to Club Vaio.
This is something caused by the way Windows measures Bytes:
Windows measures 1KB as 1024Bytes using a binary system but drive/computer maufacturers call 1000Bytes as 1KB, so -
Your 100,000,000,000 Byte Hard Drive
= 97656250KB
= 95367.43164MB
= 93.13226GB
So Windows measures a 100GB drive as 93GB.
You have a Recovery Partition on your hard drive where the back up software for your Vaio is kept (you do not have Recovery Discs and have to make these from this Recovery Partition). This is usually about 8GB.
Some goes in formating and indexing the drive - but that leaves you with about 85GB shown in Windows.
Confusing isn't it????
Thanks!
