In mains operation my Vaio TX5XN/B gets pretty hot (right side of the keyboard) and the cpufan is running constantly very high. This is although I run it on fanlevel 1 and the lowest cpu performance level, display brightness is set to level 4 only and all I do is writing in word or surfing the internet. When I listen to music (mediaplayer) the fan becomes a starting airplain.
Is this normal? Actually I find it quite annoying. I have installed XP instead of the preinstalled vista (which stressed the system really hard) and stripped it down so there isn't any xp-service (nor other background apps) running that is not essential for the system. My notebook does not have much to do really but gets pretty hot anyway.
I had the predecessor TX3 which was much quiter and stayed cool even if it was stressed. This can't be just because of the slightly lower cpu running at 1,2 GHz instead of the 1,33GHz of the TX5?
What experience do you have with the TX5? Is there something wrong with mine or is this normal?
cheers, robert
No problem with noisy fan, it goes for a little while then turns off when doing more than Internet and some surfing. I am running Vista on full graphic effects and then the fan seems to go on and off a bit more. Compared to my old travelmate this fan is a gentle breeze.
Hi Robert and welcome to Club Vaio.
Have you reinstalled the Sony Power Management Utility?
Hi!
Yes, I did install the sony powermanagmentsoftware and set it to fanlevel 1 and cpu to "save battery" - both are the lowest possible settings.
cheers, robi
