Hi I have an vgna417s with xp home I belive there is a way to install xp pro could anyone give me some guidenes
Hi hotelarce,
It is not something I would really recommmend unless you must have the added Advanced Networking features of XP Pro and really know what you are doing.
XP Pro gives very few other advantages to a home user - it certainly has no performance benefits as the basic operating system is the same. This is one of the big myths of our time!!!! Your Vaio and the Docking Station, TV and Speakers are designed to work with the installed operating system.
If you are determined to go ahead then read this SONY GUIDE carefully. It is a bit out of date but gives the basic procedure.
Other things to remember: -
1. You have a SATA hard drive and if you perform a clean install, you will need a floppy drive with the SATA drivers on.
2. Save all your Sony utility .EXE programs - particularly for the Remote Commander and the TV as these are difficult to get working. These are not part of the download.
3. You will need Hotfix KB888111 installed before XP Pro will recognise your sound chip
Good Luck.
Hello,
And thankyou for the reply, I have a Hotel/Cafeteria in Northen Spain, As such my required programmes reside on this machine and 3 others.
I am having to replace a Pc and am replaceing it with a Server running SB Server, The word I have over here is that if my data bases for the two Bussiness programmes are installed on the Server, because this Laptop is Running Home version it will not comunicate with the Server.
How true is this because if its aload of you know what I will leave it as it is,
Thanks in Advance
