How deep is your pocket?
As long as you have XP SP2 and your laptop is reasonably new any suitably sized HDD (physical dimensions) will be fine.
Don't forget speed is everything and upgrading to a 7200rpm drive will give you a more of a noticeable speed increase than a processor upgrade.
