Hi, I've just bought 2 Vaio VGN-A617M's. They came preloaded with Windows XP Home. I can upgrade them using a Windows XP Pro disc and everything works fine (albeit a bit slow). If I do a clean XP Pro install all the drivers (downloaded from Sony) work except the Modem driver. It just will not install and comes up with 'failure'. I've downloaded the drivers from other sites and they don't work either. If I restore the laptops with the XP Home recovery disks the modem works - so it's not a hardware issue. Anyone got any ideas. I've called Sony but they dont have a clue. They just say the drivers support the preinstalled operating system!
Hi stuartd,
Welcome to Club Vaio,
If you must change to Windows XP Pro have you tried copying the C:Drivers file to a CD/DVD and using that when changing to XP Pro..:smileyconfused:
Hi Thalamus,
I've copied the drivers from the drivers file on the XP Home Vaio and from the XP Home upgraded to XP pro Vaio. I've copied them to cd, memory stick and downloaded them directly from the Vaio website which has detected the model of my laptop. None of them work. The installation will start but ends with a failure result.
