Help. I have lost my DVD drive!!

Can anyone shed any light on this. I used vaio update after which my system crashed. I used system restore to get it up and running again, using the setting from before the update. This works fine, however, the computer no longer sees my optical drive. The drive works fine in safe mode.
It does not show up in 'My Computer' and I can not run any discs from it.

All hep appriciated.

Sorry. forgot to mention I have a VGC-M1 machine.

My other query is that I am unable to record TV. When I try I get the message that my Drive for saving recorded TV is not set. I go to settings and set it again (two choices given C or D) but still get the same message.

Thanks for your help.

Hi Julie,

The DVD optical drive problem is possibly driver related, especially if it is working in safe mode.

Try uninstalling this drive in Device Manager (Control Panel > System > Hardware > Device Manager), restart the computer and let windows find and install the drivers.

Sorry, I can’t offer any advice on the TV problem.

Ok. I did as you suggested but to no avail. In device manager the drive has a yellow ! mark and says the computer cannot load the driver. I have looked in the net for a driver The drive is a Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-K14L.

There is no driver in the original driver folder either????????

Hi there, i'm using the M1.. but didn't do any Vaio Updates as I feel still alrite with me..

The driver is using the normal Microsoft driver. But if you really need the driver, I hope I can found out for you.. hehe..

btw, if u have MSN please PM me so that I can help you as much as possible.

On TV recording using Vaio Zone, i didn't encounter any problem at all after the settings. Maybe you need to clarify a folder in order to do that.... Let me know for further problemz..

The only drivers you require are the ones provided by Windows, and these should load automatically. There is evidently another problem, and I would guess that is a driver conflict, or a registry key corruption.

Have you installed or removed any CD or DVD burning software recently, or software that has inbuilt burning capability?

No new software at all. All I did was update from Vaio. Will try the regedit fix and see if that works.

I get a code31 error if that means anything to all you cleaver people out there!

For more information on error code 31have a look here.

Don't forget to back up your registry before making any changes!
