Help. I have lost my DVD drive!!

Can anyone shed any light on this. I used vaio update after which my system crashed. I used system restore to get it up and running again, using the setting from before the update. This works fine, however, the computer no longer sees my optical drive. The drive works fine in safe mode.
It does not show up in 'My Computer' and I can not run any discs from it.

in any hardware/device problems, the only solution is to recover your PC. just copy everything to your MP3 player or blank DVDs then format and recover everything, everything will be ok, the DVD drive and the TV prog.

This is not the case at all, Blue 1901, there is usually a far more simple, and less time consuming solution – if you know what you are doing.

my VAIO doesnt allow me to create recovery disks, it says restart the PC and destroy the CD, how can i fix this?

Copy all your stuff to a network walkman and recover your PC.
