HELP: VAIO FE-21S doesn't shut down

Hi all!

I've got a problem. I bought a Sony Vaio FE-21S Notebook with Windows XPMedia Center Edition as OS.
Today I installed windows XP professional and now, if I press shut down in the start-menue it doesn't shut down so i have to push the power-button for 5 seconds!!!

Has anyone an idea how to solve this problem???

Thx ... greetz oli

Welcome to the forum, Hold down the CTL ALT Delete and bring up the task manager and shut down from there under shut down as a temporary measure. If you have adaware antispyware installed then the real time protection called adwatch.exe needs to have its process terminated in the task manager and then you can shut down. CHKDSK/F in the prompt or RUN will do a diagnostic and fix the errant program.

at first, thx 4 all, but it doesn't work!!!

There's no process calles adwatch.exe, but I tried to terminate all not useful process, nothing ..
when there's the "Windows is shutting down"--screen, nothing further happens till i push the power button for 5 secs!

the self problem happened to 2 friends, who also have a VAIO FE, when they installed xp pro!
