Windows XP media centre problems!!

hi, i recently bought the sony VGN-FE21H and have barely used it at all. For some reason i find that the windows xp media centre whcih came preinstalled with the computer is very unstable and messes the whole laptop up.
By this i mean that if i try and play a dvd using media centre, then there is no picture, but i can hear the sound.
Does anyone know what may be going on and how to resolve the problem?
Another problem i have is that when i close media centre, my screen gets messed up, and everything turns black and white, with vertical lines all accross the screen. The only way to reslove this is by restarting the laptop.
Does anyone have any idea what the problem may be, and how i can get it resolved?

Thanks, mitesh (ps sorry about the long post, i am about to go to university and am worried that these persistant problems with my new laptop will plague me at university..as a result i really want to get everything fixed before i leave!)

Hi Mitesh,

As you seem to be having several problems (here and in another thread) and have not used your Vaio much, the best course of action would be to return it to the factory settings.

Make sure you make two sets of Recovery Discs using the Vaio Recovery Utility just in case you get further problems. Also back up all data on vour Vaio that you wish to keep to drive D:\ and then carry out a Recovery of Drive C:\.

Here is the Sony Guide to RECOVERING YOUR VAIO

You will then have to re-install any MS Updates and Sony Updates.

EDIT: You will also have to re-install any additional software you have added.

Make sure your Chipset Drivers and Graphics Drivers are the most recent too.
