keyboard writing rubbing off!!!

Hi, I have owned my vaio VGN-A series Laptop for 4 Months now. I am shocked to see that the silver writing on the keyboard is apparently rubbing off. I do type a lot, but having owned several Laptops before, this is the first time that this is an issue. The "D" key for example is 50% gone.

I guess I am asking whether anyone else is experiencing this problem. If anyone at Sony is reading this, please can you make a keyboard available which has properly labelled keys and tell me how I can have mine replaced.

thanks,

legaleagle

Sony seem to be using cheapo keyboards these days - I've seen a few reports of the key decals wearing off on this site.

Disappointing when you're paying a premium price for non premium hardware.

I would't actually think Sony reads this, they seem not to care when you ring them, not saying a word about things like this forum, so I'd say create a CASE in E-Support section at http://www.vaio-link.com and maybe they will help you if you fancy ringing them for a couple of hours a day. Well, realistically saying, if you call them around 9-11 in the morning they will answer your call, but I tried after 5pm and no there was no answer whatsoever, so don't bother.
After all if your Vaio is still under the warranty they should somehow help you.
At least give it a try it doesn't cost you anything!
Cheers!

Thanks for your advice lak4ss. I tried to register for the e-support, but some information I entered was obviously wrong, since it did not recognise my vaio as a european product! Will have to try and figure out why when I have some more time.

On the keyboard front...I am not even sure I want a replacement, since the same thing is bound to happen again. What beats me is that even companies like packard bell manage to produce keyboards which last.

I am aware that it will be very difficult to get sony to do anything about this problem. The only chance we have is to prove that the keyboard is not fit for the intended purpose as set out in the Sale of Goods Act.
Sony cannot class this as normal wear and tear. I had my last toshiba for nearly 2 years, and the keyboard looked as new after this period, having been subjected to exactly the same use as my current sony.
I am only hoping that the "wear and tear" going on inside the notebook is not going at the same rate as that of the keyboard!

SONY!!!! please bring back the old PCG-X18 Keyboard!!!:smileycry:

I think we need to had a word with this HIROSHI KOTAKA
(Mechanical Design Sr. Manager) guy... he is not doing a very good job after this statement
'What was your consideration to the keyboard?
Hiroshi Kotaka : As the overall design for Type A was new, even the keyboard design had to be newly created. We added some roundness at to the corners of the keyboard section to match the overall curved design.

Hiroaki Suzuki: By adding some roundness to the "ESC" and "DELETE" key, the key size was made slightly bigger than others which is considered to be frequently used keys..

Hiroshi Kotaka: Even the surface of each individual keys have changed to avoid the worn out making the keys shine when used by heavy users.'

he made on the Experiance A Series Story...
