Hello,
Does anybody know what the maximum memory speed is of a sony vaio FE31M?
Because I want to buy some fast OCZ laptop memory(6400) 2Gb Dual channel (2x1Gb).
Thanks.
Welcome to CV
That is 800Mhz RAM and will certainly not improve performance as you Vaio will only support 533 or 667 (i forget which). The speed of RAM which you get with your vaio is the maximum the board can cope with anything higher and it either won't work or will continue at the speed it can manage.
Ps just looked up the max speed and it is 533MHz
For RAM upgrade visit Crucial
So 2Gb PC5300 won't work either it must be PC4200?
Thanks for your help.

The ones that crucial sell are the ones that are equal to the sticks you already have. They are PC5300 so they will work but there is no point buying anything better because it won't make any difference. To check the RAM you already have use CPU-Z .
Ok then I'm going to order some GEIL DDR2 PC5300 DUAL channel kit for my FE31M, I wil let somthing now if it works and if its realy high preformance like they say.
The price is the same so it don't bothers.
And indeed installing PC6400 memory would be silly because the frontside bus is 667Mhz speed so it will be uselese.
(Sorry for my bad English)
And thanks for the answers

533MHz will be fine for Vista. It'll work fine with 400MHz. Its the quantity of the RAM that matters most. 2GB is ideal for Vista as it usually uses between 400MB and 800MB idle and i have never quite filled to 2GB.
Enjoy your new RAM!
