Hello everybody
Is it possible to add more memory than the 512MB installed on a Sony VAIO Z1RMP ?
Is it usefull to put more memory ? Does it accelerate win xp ?
What kind of memory is it ? Is it a standard memory or a special kind for the Vaio Z1 ?
And where to put it ?
Thanks all for your help
Hi
Adding more memory is a bonus - so if you feel confident do it.
Your manual should advise you on the place where it goes
Crucial is a good place to buy RAM and has a memory matcher.
I don't know the exact specs for your machine but if it's anything like the others that have been mentioned around here you will probably find that your BIOS supports 1GB ram and you have 2 x 256MB installed. To upgrade you would have to ditch the existing ram sticks and buy completely new ones.
As to what spec of memory you need I would have thought thay info would be in your manual.

Does it improve the speed of the computer - does it help win XP to have 1GB ? I feel the Z1 sometimes slow to open windows
Yes it can improve performance, and means you can rip music and encode movies faster due to using the hard disk less as a swap drive.
OK I am going to order one 521MB on ebay !
I've seen on the Sony support and in the manual how to insert it in the computer
