My motion eye webcam has never worked. I've looked online for help, and the Sony manual says go to control panel, hardware and sound, device managers, then imaging devices - but I don't have this category. My husband has the same Vaio and he does.
I've also tried to go to c:drivers then click on the camera then double click on the exe file - which I have done.
I also downloaded the driver from Znet but nothing?
Hi Mentmorian and welcome to the forum.
If the webcam is not showing up at all in Device Manager then I would suspect a hardware problem, but if you have an unknown device listed with a yellow warning triangle then it could be that the drivers for the device are not installed correctly.
Do you have any unknown devices listed in Device Manager?
thanks for getting back to me.
I have no unknown devices in there, no.
Sony told me: "In regards to the software for the camera, in your All Programs listing you should find software called ArcSoft WebCam Companion. This is the software that will control your camera. Check your camera here, please."
But nothing happened there either!
Hi Mentmorian,
ArcSoft WebCam Companion is software that is used to capture photos, record videos, or edit captured files. It does not provide drivers for the camera. The “software for the camera” will be useless if the camera is not recognised by Device Manager.
If the camera is not showing up in Device Manager (even as an unknown device) then this is almost certainly a hardware fault.
I suggest that you re-contact Support and explain politely but firmly that Device Manager is not recognising the camera and ask that they arrange a repair.
thanks for the advice much appreciated!
Your'e welcome Mentmorian.
Please let us know how things progress.
well, I can't not have my laptop so instead of getting it repaired I've just ordered a separate webcam.
