:smileycool:I bought a used sony vaio pcv-rs310 from a computer store, one by one it started not reading my external hard drives, I've tried everything, I'm at wits end with this thing, I've owned and repaired many computers, never have I had a computer as problematic as this, ...Any ideas before I dissect it for parts?:smileyangry:

Hi edvanhalen1 and welcome.
This looks like a US Model - probably about 9 years old. Have you looked on the Sony US website for help?
http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/model-home.pl?mdl=PCVRS310
Are you still using XP?
Have you installed all the Service Packs?
How are the external drives connected?
Sorry - almost impossible to diagnose the problem from the information given. Time to update your computer?
It may be a drive letter conflict.
Plug both of them in, then right click on "computer" select manage.
From the list on the left, select disk management. '
From that point, let us know if you can see both hard drives in the list that shows up. If you can, select the one that isn't showing up in "computer" and right click it. From the popup menu, you can assign a new drive letter to it.
Hope that helps, and welcome.
