Nero and FX805

After installing Nero5 on my Vaio, the software will not see my CD drive, and will only opt to make an image file. I would like to write CD's with something other than the windows writing facility

Hi,
Nero usually works fine. When it first opens and asks you what you want to burn, at the top right there is a drop down box where you can select your burner. Make sure your CD drive is showing.

It has never shown my CD drive.

Hi,
I assume that you mean that you have checked all the burners listed when you "drop down" that box I referred to...I have never known this to happen. Is the CD Drive recognised in Windows Explorer? Are there any errors (Yellow) shown against it in Device Manager?

Everthing OK in Device Manager, and the only option you have when you try to select a new drive is Image recorder (virtual device)

I have a CD drive in my Windows explorer, and the only way I have of writing a CD is to right click files from windows explorer or my computer and send them to the CD drive and finalize the CD in windows. Nero displays my CD drive as a drive letter, but can't see it as a recording device

I bought it in July. CLick to DVD is an application is it? How does that make Nero see my CD writer??

Hi,
Well next thing to check. Go to Nero site and look for the list of CD burners it supports. First find out manufacturer and name of your burner. Nero supports a great many, but not all, so see if you can find yours. If you can`t find it check if there is another newer version of Nero which does.

If yours IS listed you`ve still got the problem, so have a read here

Please note that if you have a few different burners installed you will get a conflict of interests and perhaps none of them will work.

THE FOLLOWING IS ONLY FOR DEVIN
To get your CD drive back into WinExplorer

Try this first.
Boot to Safe Mode with F8
Open "Device Manager" by right clicking "My Computer" and clicking on the tab for Device Manager. Click on the + sign beside CDROM, next right click on your drive, and scroll to "Remove", restart your computer.

If that doesn`t work go here

Select Win XP Fixes on the left hand side and then Restore CD/DVD Drives to Explorer
