Hello people out there,
I need urgently some help with my network setup
I simply want to connect two computers ( vaio VGN-21 and desktop) via a router to the internet.
This connection works perfect
No step two, sharing some drives 😞 no success
What is wrong?
Both computer can ping the router
The desktop can ping the Vaio
The Vaio can not ping the desktop?
When I chose the homenetwork setup only the wireless lan is present
When I try the network diagnosis no error is reported even the dhcp status is recognized
When I look into the router bios the desktop is shown on IP and the vaio is shown on nat??
Net view can only show the shared files on the computer where it was started for the other computer error 53 is reported
When I try to use the homenetwork setup without the right adapter(wireless and that marked as ignored) and create a disk for the other computer, it trys to setup a bridge there, which leads to a blue screen and the internet is also not working any more after reboot
After spending some hours with the problem, I'am not sure any more where to search for the problem, hardware Vaio, router or software.
The firewalls I expect not to be the problem because they are configured right and I even switched them off to get sure.
Hopefully somone can help....
Best regards,
XSurf
Hi XSurf and welcome to ClubVAIO.
Error 53 is "Network Path Not Found".
Have you got "Enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP" enabled?
Right-Click your local network connection choose 'Properties' > 'General' and click on 'Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)"
Then Properties>General>Advanced>WINS and change from the default by clicking on the radio button for 'Enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP'
Hello Blencogo,
thanks for your fast answer,
I saw your hint also on somone else's problem description and changed the settings
also no change...
but what I saw now is that the only solution the other guy had was to send his notebook back to sony..
I hope this will not be the solution for my problem too.
thanks again,
XSurf
P.S. What I find very strange is that the Homenetworksetup on my desktop PC finds all connected hardware and the Vaio only finds the wireless and if switched on, the bluetooth, but not the hardwired connections
Hi XSurf,
These things can be a nightmare.
You have obviously done all the right things but I can't understand why the Vaio is being so uncooperative. I don't really know what to suggest.
Have you checked that none of the neccessary Services have been accidentally turned off?
Start>Right-Click My Computer>Manage>Sevices and Applications>Services
Scroll down the list and make sure the following are showing as 'Started':
Computer Browser
Server
SSDP
Terminal Svcs
Workstation
Clutching at straws I'm afraid.
I presume you have looked at IPCONFIG on both machines?
Start>Run>type CMD and enter to get the MS-DOS screen
Type IPCONFIG and enter.
Hi Blencogo,
the services are all there...
shame on me......
I blocked the IP in the firewall...
and I wonder how this could happen when I switched it off....
But I'm happy that it works, thanks again.
XSurf
Good news XSurf.
Bit odd that the firewall works so well when turned off - yet another of life's great mysteries!
